Empty Steel Mill Being Converted Into Robotics & Manufacturing Facility

A Pennsylvania steel mill that was abandoned in 1998 will be renovated and converted to a robotics and manufacturing hub. The 178-acre Hazelwood Green site, located in southeastern Pittsburgh, will house Carnegie Mellon University’s Manufacturing Futures Initiative and the Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing Institute. Carnegie Mellon’s Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing Institute’s (ARM) objective is to bring new technology to the modern workforce. ARM will train new employees with new technology, as well as retrain skilled workers with new technology.
