[May 10, 2012] Thermatool Corp., an Inductotherm Group company, has installed an Alpha Mach 3 cutoff system for a new mill at Allied Tube and Conduit, a brand of Atkore International, in Caxias do Sul, Brazil.
The machine cuts high-tensile-strength tube and pipe with blades of high-speed tool steel. It cuts 1008/1010 low-carbon steel with wall thicknesses from 0.028 to 0.250 in. and a cut tolerance of +/- 0.039 in. at mill speeds up to 500 FPM.
This cutoff machine was purchased with two different size dieset models to cut the various product sizes Allied manufactures. The ST-300 double cut dieset can cut steel from 1.5 to 3 in. thick at up to 500 FPM. For products from 3 to 5 in., Allied Tube can use the TRC-5005 double cut dieset to cut materials at up to 350 FPM in 10-ft. lengths.
The 100-HP rack-and-pinion system reduces cycle times. Two 40-HP motors power the flywheel of the dual clutch ram and double cut dieset to provide dimple-free cutting of product up to 5 in. and with 0.250 in. wall thickness.
Thermatool manufactures production technology and equipment for the pipe and tube industry, serving the automotive, oil-gas exploration, recreational equipment, electrical construction, furniture and industrial utility boiler markets.
